One of the 'Urology Three' finally faces being struck off

It only took the authorities 19 years... In 2001 Kavinder Madhra started at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. Within 12 months he had been issued a warning from the General Medical Council. It was blatantly obvious to his colleagues - four of whom have confirmed their opinion - that he was a 'rogue consultant' - someone who was putting patients at risk. He was sent off to Scotland - at the taxpayer's expense - to 'retrain' (while still being paid his salary) and returned to Cumbria a number of years later. He continued to make mistakes. Right up until September 2018 when the GMC/MPTS finally imposed restrictions on him (although you may question why the trust hadn't done something sooner). One former nurse told me how in theatre Mr Madhra would 'sprinkle' powder penicillin over a wound after performing surgery. I'll allow those who are medically trained to make up their own mind about such a practice.

Patient 'was harmed by urology head of department'

Family calls for action against FGH urology consultant An incident involving a man with a single kidney who had to be taken to intensive care in 2016 because of errors allegedly made by Muhammad Naseem has come to light following an FOI request I made. The response reveals UHMBT didn't carry out a Root Cause Analysis after the patient was not immediately taken to theatre despite having an infected, obstructed kidney.  Fortunately Peter Duffy became aware of the case and operated on the man as an emergency.   The case shows worrying similarities with the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Irene Erhart in 2011 and Peter Read in 2015.  Peter Read's family said: “We continue to demand that action is taken against both these consultants. We’re aware Mr Jain has returned to surgery and understand he is being supervised by a doctor junior to himself. When will something be done? “It is utterly disgraceful that more than a year after dad’s

PETER DUFFY LOOK BACK ON THE LAST 12 MONTHS

Whistle-blower gives interview to one of my colleagues Peter Duffy gave an interview to my colleague Tommy Greene in which he looked back at the events of the last year. He said: “I think it’s shameful that the NHS just fought me all the way through this, trying to silence me and gag me and threaten me. “Even in the course of the employment tribunal the true facts didn’t come out. “Under the current system, the tribunal is not so much interested in the whistleblowing - it’s interested in destroying the character of the whistleblower. “So, had it not been for the book and for Amy Fenton’s work, obviously, all of this would’ve been buried and concealed forever. “At least there has been a belated realisation that these are serious issues. “And I think it is good the NHS hasn’t managed to cover this one up. It’s out there now.” Read the full interview here

UNDER-FIRE CONSULTANT SAYS WHISTLE-BLOWER USED PIZZA TO INFLUENCE HIM

Ash Jain reports whistle-blower to GMC for 'trying to bribe him with pizzas' In December 2019 Mr Duffy was told Mr Jain had made a complaint about him to the General Medical Council (GMC). The complaint alleges '(Peter) did not allow Asian colleagues to take annual leave and his wife used to decide who gets what... at a pizza party'. He is also accused of being a user of crack cocaine and amphetamine. READ THE FULL STORY HERE
