NHS ANNOUNCE EXTERNAL INVESTIGATION

Finally some progress... Today UHMBT confirmed that NHS Improvement/England has agreed to commission an external investigation into the urology department. It's not quite the public inquiry which MPs, patients and families have been calling for but at the very least it's some progress. The only concern about NHSI/E commissioning this review is that in 2017 that very same organisation accepted former UHMBT medical director David Walker's insistence that "everything was fine". But ultimately, the world will be watching, particularly myself, and I don't doubt that the patients who have come forward to date will make sure that they are involved in the whole process. This investigation must not leave any stone unturned.  This investigation must not be restricted to the concerns raised in Peter Duffy's book.  This investigation must look into the ongoing issues relating to current employees of UHMBT. This investigation must delve deeper tha

GMC investigate urology consultant who treated cancer patient

The latest development... THE consultant who leads an underfire urology department is being investigated by the General Medical Council, The Mail can exclusively reveal. Cancer patient Chris Dickson complained to the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust after the time between his check-ups was extended from three to six months. He had been treated by Muhammad Naseem the clinical lead of the trust’s urology department. Mr Naseem is one of three consultant urologists whose failings led to a series of clinical errors over the last 18 years including one which contributed to a patient’s death. Concerns were initially raised by his former colleague Peter Duffy. Mr Dickson, 43, was diagnosed with bladder cancer six years ago and has undergone a number of operations to remove recurrent tumours. The dad-of-one, from Morecambe, forwarded his complaint to the General Medical Council after the trust’s chief executive Aaron Cummins apologised for the car

WHISTLE IN THE WIND: 5,000 SALES

Peter Duffy's book sells 5,000 copies to date Considering its niche topic and market, and despite my fairly limited understanding of self-publishing, it seems fairly impressive even to me that Whistle in the Wind has now racked up 5,000 sales since it was released in July. You can buy a copy of it here on Amazon: Whistle in the Wind on Amazon

UHMBT DOCUMENTS SENT TO GOVERNORS

In the interests of accuracy... Having taken some time to examine the documents published online and sent to UHMBT governors there are a few points that both I and Peter feel need to be clarified. The documents are available here:  UHMBT documents sent to governors David Walker's quality committee report January 2019 1. DW: There was a discussion between the clinicians who disagreed that this (the death of Peter Read in 2015)  was appropriate for discussion in Morbidity & Mortality (M&M). The trust discussed this with the coroner and the coroner requested that as it was not being discussed at audit meeting, that he would like a Root Cause Analysis undertaking and sharing with him. This was agreed in writing between the coroner and the trust legal department.   Peter Duffy response: Firstly there was no discussion about appropriateness.  There was simply a blank refusal to discuss the case by Muhammad Naseem and Ashutosh Jain when I attempted to discus

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE UHMBT GOVERNORS MEETING

Whistle-blowers' anonymous...               Me with retired urologist Richard Wilson                Me with Mr Jakkula and Russell Dunkeld I'd initially been tipped off about the extraordinary meeting of the UHMBT Council of Governors by an anonymous caller who rang me the week before. At this stage nothing had been confirmed about the reason for the meeting but I had no doubt that it would involve the urology investigation. I was simply told: "You might want to attend."  On my way into Westmorland General Hospital I met up with a couple of other whistle-blowers who had been in contact with me over recent weeks via social media; former staff nurse Russell Dunkeld and Srinivas Jakkula, consultant in intensive care and anaesthesia. I was also approached by a former board member who thanked me for my work and assured me I had their support. I was pleased, as we walked into the boardroom, to also see another UHMBT whistle-blower, radiographer Sue Allison,

CALL FOR CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO UROLOGY FAILINGS

UHMBT's council of governors grill trust bosses PUBLIC governors overseeing the Morecambe Bay trust have called for the police to be called in over urology failings. At an extraordinary meeting of the council of governors last night bosses of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust faced a grilling about their response to concerns about urology services. Issues were initially raised by consultant urologist Peter Duffy whose book Whistle in the Wind, published two months ago, highlighted significant clinical errors made by three former colleagues. EVERY ARTICLE PUBLISHED TO DATE

More than 20 articles relating to Peter Duffy... Peter and I have been working together now for over a year. I've collated all the articles we have published online to date relating to the urology investigation. PETER DUFFY'S BOOK SELLS 4,000 COPIES

Amazon best-seller... It might only have been released around six weeks ago but Peter Duffy's tell-all book, Whistle in the Wind, has already racked up 4,000 sales. Buy it on Amazon here: Whistle in the Wind Blurb In a shocking indictment of NHS standards, cover-ups and legal dirty tricks, Peter Duffy, consultant surgeon writes of his 35 years of experience on the front-line of the NHS. Charting his career pathway from auxiliary nurse and unskilled operating theatre orderly, he takes us through his progress to senior consultant surgeon and head of department. In 2015, and after blowing the whistle on a series of near misses, he reluctantly reported an avoidable death, cover-up and ongoing surgical risk-taking to the Care Quality Commission. Within months he was out of work and unemployed. Via avoidable deaths and errors, cover-ups, misuse of public funds, bullying, abuse and victimisation the author charts out in searing detail his demotion, punishments and exile fro
